Opera Naples’ Summer Youth Program is a highlight of our educational outreach programs, designed for participants aged 13-21.
This intensive two week program culminates in two performances of a Gilbert and Sullivan comic operetta at the Wang Opera Center in Naples.  The program typically occurs in June and accepts 25-30 participants.  In addition to preparing and performing the operetta, registrants also participate in masterclasses and workshops lead by local professionals focusing on various aspects of performing including vocal technique, acting, improvisation, and movement.  The youth aid in the construction of the set, props, and costumes used in their production.
Past productions have included The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, and H.M.S. Pinafore among other G&S favorites. A guest stage director is brought to Naples to lead the program.
Past directors have included Stephen Carr from the Eastman School of Music and Louis Dall’Ava from the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players.
Opera Naples’ Director of Educational Outreach, Robin Frank, serves as musical director.
The registration fee for the two weeks is $250 which includes a vocal score and CD.  Scholarships are available.   All registrants perform regardless of experience or demonstrated talent.  Auditions are held in May to cast the principle roles.

2018 Summer Program information will be annouced later in the year.
