Production & Technical Director

Position Summary:
The Production and Technical Director is responsible for the overall planning, coordination and execution of all technical and production aspects of performances and events. This role oversees production personnel, manages budgets and schedules and ensures the successful realization of all design and technical elements from pre-production through
strike. With respect to the management of the Wang Opera Center, this role reports to the Executive Director and with respect to the artistic direction of Opera Naples productions, this role reports to the Artistic and Music Director.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Planning & Coordination
• Lead all pre-production efforts, including development of drawing packages, vendor coordination and participation in hiring processes.
• Schedule and conduct pre-production site visits and assess technical requirements.
• Collaborate with the Artistic and Music Director and creative teams to ensure timely execution of all production elements.
• Organize and lead design and production meetings throughout the production process.
• Maintain and administer the master production calendar, including rehearsal and orchestra schedules.
Technical Direction & Execution
• Oversee all technical aspects including scenery, lighting, audio/video, stage operations and wardrobe/wigs/makeup.
• Provide technical leadership and supervision to crew and contractors.
• Manage rehearsal setup, orchestra pit setup and all technical requirements for performances.
• Supervise load-in, rehearsals, performances (run of show) and strike.
• Ensure all site needs are met, including power, lighting, staging, dressing rooms, tents, seating and other infrastructure.
• Design/Format supertitles and projections for all productions
Staffing & Supervision
• Recruit, hire and supervise all production personnel and contractors in collaboration with the Artistic and Music Director.
• Oversee teams including stage management, electricians, carpenters, wardrobe staff, props and production assistants.
• Assemble and manage technical crews and ensure effective communication across all departments.
• Address and resolve personnel issues and conflicts as they arise.
Vendor & Facility Management
• Serve as a primary liaison with venue and park management.
• Coordinate and schedule vendors, ensuring timely delivery of services and materials.
• Supervise on-site vendor activity and off-site construction, including scenic and costume builds.
• Oversee bid processes for external production services when necessary.
Budgeting & Administration
• Develop and manage the overall production budget, ensuring cost-effective execution.
• Negotiate and manage designer and vendor contracts in coordination with leadership.
• Process payments and oversee financial tracking for production expenses.
• Maintain and distribute production documentation, including contact lists and schedules.
• Maintain an inventory of props, costumes and other property at the Wang Opera
Center.
Facility & Safety Oversight
• Oversee maintenance, upkeep and operational readiness of performance facilities.
• Coordinate repairs, renovations and technical upgrades as needed.
• Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency procedures for the facility, productions and events.
• Serve as on-site manager of Wang Opera Center for rental events.
General Duties
• Act as a central point of communication between artistic staff, technical teams, vendors and venue personnel.
• Support logistics such as transportation coordination for artists and staff when needed.
• Perform additional duties as required to ensure the success of all productions and events.
• Other duties as assigned.
