Andy Papas

Opera & Musical Theater

Native Bostonian Andy Papas has been praised by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel for being “delightfully ridiculous”, and by the Albany Times-Union for his “irresistible hijinks”. Most recently he was seen as Bartolo (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) in St. Louis for Union Avenue Opera, where Gateway City audiences have also heard him twist his tongue as The Major General, Ko-Ko (The Mikado), and Jack Point (Yeoman of the Guard). Andy was fortunate to make his Alaska debut in 2019, singing Bartolo for Anchorage Opera, and he returns to the land of the midnight sun next fall as The Major General. A frequent performer in Washington State, he sings Rossini’s Bartolo this March for Pacific Northwest Opera.
In June, Andy heads home to New England as the title role in Verdi’s Falstaff for The Monadnock
Opera Company. When not onstage, he teaches Opera & Theater appreciation classes to students all over the world in courses such as And The Tony Award Goes to… and The British Operas Are Coming. Andy has performed leading & featured roles in both Musical Theater & Opera with Boston Lyric Opera, Skylight Music Theater, The Opera Co. of Middlebury, The New Rep, and Painted Sky Opera, among others.
Andy IS the very model of a modern major general! He returns to familiar G&S territory, performing the Major General for both Opera Naples and Anchorage Opera. Andy’s debut this spring with Opera Naples will be followed at a later date (to be announced) in the land of the midnight sun. This will be his fourth & fifth time performing this iconic G&S patter role, having debuted the role in St. Louis 10 years ago.
