The Dan Miller – Lew Del Gatto Quintet

Plays The Music of Jerome Kern
Naples' Best at the Wang

Basic Information

Join trumpeter Dan Miller and saxophonist Lew Del Gatto at Opera Naples, as they celebrate the genius and music of Jerome Kern. The music that Kern composed for the Broadway Stage and the Hollywood Screen became an integral part of the Great American Songbook, loved by musicians, singers, and audiences alike. Stephen Sondheim wrote, “A Kern song is almost always recognizable, even to the untrained ear. It has a “feel,” a “sound” that is distinct and unique. The melody has an enduring freshness. The harmony is usually simple and not very inventive eventful, yet graceful and clear and full of air.”

The program will include such favorites as All The Things You Are, Yesterdays, The Way You Look Tonight, Look For The Silver Lining, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, I’m Old Fashioned, Long Ago & Far Away, The Song Is You, Dearly Beloved, They Wouldn’t Believe Me and all the incredible music from Showboat including Why Do I Love You, Bill and Old Man River.

Dan Miller built his reputation touring and recording with Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman and Tom Jones. Lew Del Gatto was a member of the Saturday Night Live Band from 1975 – 2006 and toured and recorded with Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and Buddy Rich. For this concert, they bring together a tremendous group of musicians for an evening of hard-swinging, acoustic jazz music including the spectacular pianist from NYC Roy Gerson, bassist Brandon Robertson and drummer Tony Vigilante.
