A revered opera celebrating the life, talents, and legacy of Frida Kahlo, with music by Robert Xavier Rodriguez, book by Hilary Blecher, lyrics and monologues by Migdalia Cruz. Maestro Ramón Tebar conducts the Naples Festival Orchestra with the Opera Naples chorus. In addition, the performance will include Opera Naples Resident Artists, up-and-coming opera stars that are selected annually during a national selection process and perform throughout the Opera Naples season.

Catalina Cuervo

Soprano Catalina Cuervo’s 2022-2023 season includes her role debut as Elisetta in Il matrimonio segreto with Florida Grand Opera, Micaëla in Carmen in her return to Anchorage Opera, a debut with Fort Worth Opera to star in two concerts which she has curated: Noches de Latinidad: El fuego de una mujer and Noches de Zarzuela, her celebrated Maria in Maria de Buenos Aires with Opera San Antonio, a debut with Opera Naples for her much-acclaimed Frida, and an opera gala with the South Florida Symphony.

Ms. Cuervo holds the distinction of having performed the most productions by any singer in history of both Astor Piazzolla's opera Maria de Buenos Aires and Frida by Robert X. Rodriguez. Other operatic roles include Nedda in I Pagliacci, Magda in La rondine, Mimì and Musetta in La bohème, Adriana in the Zarzuela Los Gavilanes, and Amapola in La Leyenda del Beso.

Diego Rivera

Ricardo Herrera

Bass-baritone, performer, teacher and stage director. Ricardo has sung more than 50 operatic roles around the USA, Mexico, and Europe. He has sung with San Francisco Opera, Gotham Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, El Paso Opera, Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, Cincinnati Opera, Caramoor Festival, Atlanta Opera, among others.

Ricardo was honored the First Prize Award Winner of the Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Competition in NYC and was also invited to participate in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia World Opera Contest. He is the Chair of the voice faculty of the University of Illinois and continues to give masterclasses around the USA, Mexico, Europe, and Asia. He is the founder of HerrVocalis training program, presenting masterclasses around the world.

Ricardo has sung the role of Diego Rivera around the country including Detroit, Cincinnati, Miami, Atlanta and El Paso.
