We will be selecting four artists: soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone or bass. We will select artists who are best suited for roles in L’elisir d’amore. The mezzo-soprano should be best suited to fill the roles of Cherubino and Sazuki.
What productions will involve the Resident Artists?
L’elisir d’amore directed by Renata Scotto
Madama Butterfly (mezzo only – role of Sazuki)
Le nozze di Figaro (mezzo only – role of Cherubino)
The above productions will be conducted by Maestro Ramón Tebar. Additionally, artists will perform roles in a school educational tour and perform as featured soloists in A Celebration of Leonard Bernstein Concert as well as various community outreach concerts and performances.
Who are the Resident Artists?
Resident Artists are emerging professionals who participate in an artistically challenging residency program with Opera Naples. They receive training as well as perform in mainstage productions, in-school programs, and community outreach concerts and events.
What other opportunities exist for the Resident Artists?
Artists will participate in The Opera Naples Renata Scotto Opera Academy occurring February 11-24, 2018 during which Renata Scotto will direct a production of L’elisir d’amore. Artists will study the roles through lessons, coachings, and staging rehearsals and perform in the Wang Opera Center. During the residency, artists receive various additional opportunities for professional growth including coachings, masterclasses, and workshops with Opera Naples’ staff and visiting artists.
How are Resident Artists compensated?
A weekly stipend of $400, a travel stipend, and housing will be provided over the course of the residency. Artists must have their own vehicle while in Naples for the residency period in February-March, 2018. Opera Naples will not be responsible for local transportation needs during the residency. For the mezzo-soprano, a $400 performance stipend is provided for each performance of Madama Butterfly and Le nozze di Figaro. Local transportation during the production periods in November and May is provided.
